Who created God? This is one of the fundamental questions of atheists. The routine question is, “If God created everything, then who created God?” Not only atheists, but many Christians also struggle with this question. Well, let me tell you the answer straight away. No one created God. That is right. No one created God. He is eternal. There are many verses in the Bible, but I will quote one:
Before the mountains were born, or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. (Psalm 90:2)
Atheists never cease to amuse me. First they argue that there is no God and then they want to know who created God. Make up your mind fellas. If you tell atheists that no one created God, do you think they will stop asking the same question again and again? No, they won’t, because they are not interested in answers, only in questions. You see, contrary to their claim that they don’t believe in God, atheists indeed have created many ideologies about God and they try to view God within these set of ideologies.
The ideology behind their search for a ‘created God’ is that anyone who is capable of creating something must have been created by something else in the first place. The classic example is the atheist Richard Dawkins. He recently went on to describe himself as a ‘cultural Christian-, whatever that means. In his book ‘God Delusion’ Dawkins says:
…Any creative intelligence, of sufficient complexity to design anything, comes into existence only as the end product of an extended process of gradual evolution. Creative intelligences, being evolved, necessarily arrive late in the universe, and therefore cannot be responsible for designing it. God, in the sense defined, is a delusion…
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see that Richard Dawkins is not trying to find whether the Creative intelligence is the Creator or the created. Instead, Richard Dawkins is trying to view God, which he calls the Creative intelligence, as something that is the product of evolution, and therefore, created. When Richard Dawkins and his fellow atheists find that God doesn’t fit within this ideology of a ‘created God’ and that God is bigger or different than any ideology they could create, they change the tactic and argue that God doesn’t exist. When atheists try to portray him as a ‘created God’, God faces up to them and says:
‘Who is this that darken my counsel with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me if you understand’ (Job 38:2-4).
Well, it is not directed towards atheists, but to everyone who questions the authority of God. Please read the book of Job. God is making an authoritative statement that He is the Creator, not a created God. ‘I AM who IAM’ (Exodus 3:14). ‘I was there is the beginning and I AM the beginning’ (John 1:1). These are very bold statements. God is challenging Richard Dawkins and his fellow atheists. Does Richard Dawkins has an answer? Do his fellow atheists have an answer? Where were they when God laid the foundations of the earth? A prebiotic slime perhaps?
You see, my experience is, it is impossible to rationalize with atheists. So, with reluctance and regret, I am going to play their game. In order to do this, I would like to coin two new terminologies, a God-based creation and a Singularity-based creation. All theists believe in a God-based creation, which is, God created everything. On the other hand, atheists believe in a Singularity-based creation, which is, Singularity created everything.
Most of you may have heard of the big bang theory, but not necessarily Singularity. Singularity was a point that was infinitely smaller, infinitely hotter and infinitely denser (add a few more infinities if you wish), where all known laws of Physics broke down. That is a very convenient defensive statement. One day, this Singularity decided to expand at an amazing speed (in other words, big bang) and created everything. That is the Singularity-based creation of atheists.
Well, my question to atheists is, “If Singularity created everything, who created Singularity?”
While you are pondering over the answer, I will address my fellow Christians who struggle with the question of who created God.
Dear friends in Christ, no one created the God we worship. We do not worship a ‘created God’. Our God created everything. Don’t be fooled by anyone or let atheists cast doubt in your mind. They have their own questions to answer. As we have seen above, the Bible makes it very clear that our God is eternal. I know this statement doesn’t go well with many of you, because this may prompt another question, for example, how is it possible to comprehend and ideology of infinity and eternity.
Infinity simply means a state of limitlessness in terms of time, space and quantity. It is a well-established mathematical and scientific concept and no one, including atheists, has trouble in accepting it as we have seen above in the case of Singularity. If you ever attended school, I am sure you learned about infinity, especially in your Maths class. For example the number set is infinite. I know someone will argue that certain sets are not infinite. A few years ago, I asked someone to give an example of infinity. He responded, “My dreams and hope”. You see, the problem is not with the concepts of infinity and eternity. Instead, the problem lies in our attitude in accepting God as eternal and infinite.
So, who created God? No one created god. God has always existed and always will be. In line with the concept of infinity, God is infinite and limitless, not bound by time, space and quantity. He is the Creator, not the created.
